Hi, I’m Sophie!

I’m a multimedia science journalist with a passion for human-centered reporting that ignites interest in and provides access to complex topics. I’ve published my work with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the Columbia Missourian, the University of Missouri’s Division of Research, and the Source.

Currently, I’m an engagement intern with SciLine. I’m also a Pulitzer Center campus consortium reporting fellow covering environmental issues in Peru.

I hold bachelor’s degrees in journalism and physics from the University of Missouri, and I find joy in unraveling complex scientific discoveries with words. Click below to view my work!

I’m also a fierce advocate for representation in news organizations. As a Peruvian American, I co-led the National Association of Hispanic Journalists chapter at the University of Missouri during the 2023-2024 academic year. That summer, our chapter was named the student chapter of the year at the NAHJ national conference in Los Angeles, California.
